Privacy Policy

What information FamilyPine collects, how we use it, who can see it and the choices you have.

Last updated October 6, 2026

The short version

  • Your families are private. What you share is seen only by the families you share it with.
  • We don't sell your personal information, show ads or use your content to build advertising profiles.
  • Family Vault documents are encrypted on your device. We can't read them.
  • Location is only used while a location alert involving you is being checked, and only goes to the person who set the alert.
  • You can delete your account and your data at any time.

1. Who we are

This Privacy Policy explains how FamilyPine LLC ("FamilyPine", "we", "us") collects, uses and protects personal information when you use the FamilyPine apps, the website at familypine.com and related services (the "Service"). We are the controller of the personal information described here. It should be read together with our Terms of Service.

2. Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Account details: your email address (used to sign in with a one-time code), name, profile photo, cover photo, and profile details you choose to add, such as your birthday, where you live or a short bio.
  • Family information: the families you create or join, invitations you send (including the invitee's name and email address), your relationships in the family tree and the names you use for relatives.
  • Your content: photos, videos, voice messages, posts, comments, life events, reactions, messages, family events, tags, places you check in to and emergency notes.
  • Information about other people: details you add about relatives, including dependent profiles for children and memorial profiles for relatives who have passed away.
  • Family Vault files: stored only in encrypted form. We can't see the contents, your vault password or your recovery words.
  • Support messages: what you tell us when you contact us.

Information collected when you use the Service

  • Location for location alerts: if you allow it, your device's location while an alert that involves you is being checked. We also store the places and times that alerts are set up for.
  • Location you choose to share: places you pick for a post, family event or alert.
  • Calls: who called whom, when and for how long. Calls are connected in real time and we don't record them.
  • Device and app information: device type, operating system, app version, language, time zone, and the push notification token that lets us send you notifications.
  • Usage and diagnostic information: technical logs, error reports and records of actions in the app, used to keep the Service secure and working.

Information from others

  • Other family members may add information about you, such as your relationship to them, a photo you're tagged in, or an invitation to your email address.
  • Payment providers: Apple and Stripe tell us whether a payment or subscription succeeded, the plan and its billing dates. We don't receive or store your full card number.

3. How we use information

  • To provide the Service: create your account, sign you in, show your content to the families you choose, deliver messages, calls and notifications, run location alerts and manage plans.
  • To keep FamilyPine safe: prevent fraud, abuse and spam, investigate reports, enforce our Terms and protect children.
  • To fix problems and improve the Service, including understanding which features work well.
  • To communicate with you: send sign-in codes, invitations, service and billing notices, and replies to your questions. We don't send marketing emails without your consent.
  • To meet legal obligations, such as keeping payment records and responding to lawful requests.

We don't sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or use your photos, videos or messages for advertising. We don't use your content to train artificial intelligence models.

5. Who can see your information

Inside FamilyPine

  • Content you share is visible to members of the families you share it with. You choose the families for each memory.
  • Members of a family can see each other's names, profile photos, profile details and place in the family tree.
  • Location alert notifications go only to the member who created the alert. Your live location isn't shown on a map to the family.
  • Family administrators can see the family's membership and, if they pay, its billing status.

Service providers

We use trusted providers to run FamilyPine. They may only use your information to provide their service to us, under contracts that require them to protect it. They include:

  • Microsoft Azure, for hosting, databases and file storage;
  • an email delivery provider, for sign-in codes and invitations;
  • Apple and Google, for app distribution and push notifications, and Apple for App Store payments;
  • Stripe, for card payments;
  • Google Maps Platform, for maps and place search;
  • LiveKit, for voice and video calls.

Other cases

  • Legal reasons: when we believe in good faith that the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety, including reporting child sexual exploitation to NCMEC and law enforcement.
  • Business changes: if FamilyPine is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We'll tell you before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
  • With your permission: for example, when you share or download a file to another app.

6. Children

  • Accounts are for people aged 13 and over, or older where local law requires.
  • Younger children can be included only through a dependent profile that a parent or guardian creates and manages. A dependent profile has no login, email or phone number, and the child doesn't use FamilyPine directly.
  • The parent or guardian who manages a dependent profile can review, change or delete the child's information at any time.
  • If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us at support@familypine.com and we'll delete it.

7. How we protect information

  • Information is encrypted in transit between the app and our servers.
  • Family Vault files are encrypted on your device before upload. Your vault password and recovery words never reach us, which also means we can't recover the vault if you lose both.
  • Access to personal information inside FamilyPine is limited to people who need it to run and support the Service.
  • No system is completely secure. If a breach affects your personal information, we'll notify you and the authorities as the law requires.

8. How long we keep information

  • We keep your information while your account is active.
  • Deleting content: when you delete a post, photo or message, it's removed from the app.
  • Deleting your account: you can permanently delete your account and data from your profile in the app. Deletion can't be undone. Content you shared is removed, though copies may remain in encrypted backups for a limited time until they're overwritten.
  • Leaving a family: what you posted in a family may stay visible to that family unless you delete it first.
  • Vault files after a paid plan ends: they stay read-only so you can download or delete them. Files in the vault's Trash are deleted 30 days after the plan changes to Free.
  • Records we must keep: billing and tax records and information needed to resolve disputes or enforce our Terms may be kept for as long as the law requires.

9. Your rights and choices

  • In the app: edit your profile, delete content, leave a family, turn off notifications or location access in your device settings, and delete your account.
  • By request: depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and to withdraw consent. Email support@familypine.com. We'll verify your identity and reply within the time the law requires.
  • California residents: you have the right to know, delete and correct personal information and not to be discriminated against for using these rights. We don't sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising.
  • Complaints: you can complain to your local data protection authority, such as the UK Information Commissioner's Office. We'd appreciate the chance to help first.

10. International transfers

FamilyPine is used by families around the world, and your information may be stored and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our providers operate. When we transfer personal information out of the UK or the European Economic Area, we use legal safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK International Data Transfer Addendum.

11. Our website

familypine.com doesn't use advertising or analytics cookies. The site loads fonts from Google Fonts, so Google receives your device's IP address when you visit. Links to the App Store and Google Play take you to sites with their own privacy policies.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as FamilyPine changes. If a change is significant, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when the policy last changed.
